US based lawyer Makau Mutua has joined some naysayers in dismissing World Marathoner Eliud Kipchoge’s latest record after he completed a 26.2 miles(42 km) race in a once-inconceivable time of 1 hour 59 minutes 40 seconds.
In an opinion piece published on Daily Nation, Makau said that Kipchoge’s fuss that no human beings are limited is misleading.

He argued that the conditions favoured him to complete the INEOS challenge within the said duration.
He also argued that Kipchoge had pace setters who were friendly to him unlike in the real contest where you are often surrounded by rivals.
He further said that the race to break the world record has not been held so far. He asked Kenyans to ignore the claims that human beings can do anything in this world. Makau said that the argument is unfounded and senseless.
“He ran against himself without having to be worried — or psyched out — by real competitors. Instead, he was escorted by friendly ‘sycophants’ brought there to help him break the two-hour barrier.
It’s like a boxer who knocks out a hapless sparring partner. Or a dictator running against himself. So, in a sense Mr Kipchoge’s ‘record’ is fake. The first true under-two-hour marathon hasn’t been run yet,” he posed.
