Elgeyo Marakwet senator Kipchumba Murkomen will sooner or later be the Cabinet Secretary for Roads and Transport once his appointment is approved by parliament.
The approval will see him resign from his senatorial position and take up the national responsibility bestowed upon him by President William Ruto.
In his acceptance speech on the national government role, the senator pledged to serve Kenyans with humility and dedication.
“I thank HE @WilliamsRuto for giving me the greatest honor&privilege to serve my country as a Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Roads,Transport and Public Works. I will serve the people of Kenya with greatest humility &utmost dedication to ensure we achieve our development PLAN. I thank the people of Elgeyo Marakwet County who gave me the platform and built me to be the person I am. God Bless Kenya,” Murkomen said in a statement.
The obvious reason why Ruto appointed Murkomen was to reward him because of being a loyal ally and defending him in the senate, a move that saw him lose the majority leader position in May 2020. The axe also fell on the current Nakuru governor Susan Kihika who lost the majority whip position for being an ardent supporter of Ruto.
Fresh details surrounding Murkomen’s appointment have however emerged and it is alleged that the appointment is meant to groom him for bigger responsibilities in future.
A local newspaper reveals that he is being prepared to “take over regional leadership when the right time comes.”
This means that he will likely succeed William Ruto as the Rift Valley political kingpin.
