The United Democratic Alliance(UDA) is calling upon its members, affiliates and delegates to boycott a number of news channels.
Those that have been affected by the new directive include the 411 news flash message service, Citizen Weekly, The Nairobian and The Red Pepper from Uganda.
According to a statement by the chairman of the National Election Board for UDA Anthony Mwaura, the boycott is as a result of the channels spreading false and biased information about DP William Ruto and the party in general.
“411, along with several other news outlets including The Nairobian, Citizen Weekly and The Standard have in the past week published news articles targeted at sabotaging the integrity and dignity of the UDA party and Hon. William Ruto by raising accusations of domestic violence, witchcraft, association to ungodly organizations such as Freemason and finance misappropriation,” part of the statement read.
Mwaura further said that the move by the channels to publish the stories tainted DP Ruto’s image as well as that of UDA noting that it will affect the mental health of DP’s family and his associates.
He also criticized The Nairobian’s move to publish an article that claimed UDA is struggling financially on their Wedneday’s publication.
“It is further discouraging that The Nairobian, through its digital arm, has published an article claiming that UDA is in a financial crisis due to lack of funds ahead of our national nomination exercise scheduled for next week. This comes the same week citizen weekly published a story claiming to reveal details behind an impeachment plan by the Hon. William Ruto and several Mt. Kenya leaders against the government,” Mwaura stated.
He however said that they do not dispute the main allegations by the two publications but they disagree with the rogue journalism that is aimed at inciting fear and chaos in their membership.
“We therefore direct our members and supporters to unsubscribe, unfollow and not purchase the publications and services of 411, The Nairobian and Citizen Weekly as well as not to share or comment on stories about UDA or William Ruto in foreign news sites and circulated on social media including The Red Pepper From Uganda,” Mwaura said.
