President Uhuru Kenyatta is set to earn not only millions of dollars but also get expensive goodies as he heads home after the 9th August general elections.
President Uhuru will receive a total gratuity allocation of 72 million annually which is set to increase to 79.2 million in the subsequent years. That will be besides a lumpsum pension of 34.7 million that the former head of state will earn as an appreciation for his dedicated service.
Since retiring head of states in Kenya are entitled to accommodation, president Uhuru will earn a house allowance of 332,063 shillings per month as long as he lives. In addition, Mr. Kenyatta will be entitled to a monthly fuel allowance of 216,563 shillings, an entertainment allowance of 216,563 and 300,000 shillings for water, electricity, and telephone (utilities).
The other benefits president Uhuru will receive are 4 cars of his choice including two limousines that will be replaced after every four years, two personal secretaries, four messengers, four drivers and bodyguards, four secretaries, a fully furnished office and full medical cover that will allow him the luxury to go to any hospital of his choice.
According to the presidential Retirement Benefits Act gazetted by the Salaries and Renumeration Commission, exiting Heads of State are paid 80 per cent of their pensionable income – which is usually 60 per cent of their gross salaries.
With only seven days to the general election, the Jubilee regime of president Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Samoei Ruto will be coming to an end after their 10 year reign.
The Uhuruto government was first elected in 2013 and were re-elected in 2017 under the Jubilee ticket in a controversial election that was nullified by the Supreme court.
At the same time, the outgoing president has not shied away from making his position known in the coming election and he is backing the Azimio flagbearer Raila Amollo Odinga and his runningmate Martha Karua.
Uhuru has on several occasions discouraged Kenyans from electing his deputy William Ruto, terming him too incompetent to take over the leadership of the country.
