President William Samoei Ruto on Tuesday named his cabinet secretaries (CSs) that will help him to implement the detailed Kenya Kwanza manifesto.
However, what stood out in Ruto’s appointments were the missing names of the most vocal Kenya Kwanza politicians that everyone expected to make it to the coveted cabinet positions.
These leaders not only helped Ruto to campaign but also criticized the Azimio presidential candidate to the point of throwing him some insults in campaign rallies.
To begin with, one of those leaders is former Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Mr. Hassan Omar. Omar dumped Raila Odinga’s side a long time ago and joined Ruto during the famous handshake period. Having shifted camps, the vibrant leader put up a spirited campaign for the president at the coastal region and definately everyone expected that he would be first amongst the equal to be considered for a CS as opposed to just a PS.
The second leader whom everyone expected to make it to the cabinet was former Machakos senator Johnson Muthama having shifted his loyalty to Ruto years back. Muthama even led many UDA activities around Ukambani as the pioneer when the party was just launched. How the president dropped him for Alfred Mutua is still a matter beyond our understanding.
The third leader that people expected to make it to the cabinet was former Laikipia woman repe Cate waruguru. Known for her sharp tongue, waruguru supported Ruto with all her heart and she was one of the biggest critics of Raila Odinga and president Uhuru Kenyatta after the handshake. She was also on many occasions pursued to decamp to the government side but she remained loyal to Mr. Ruto.
Another senior face that was expected to make it at the top was Cleophas Malala who lost to the ODM candidate Fernandez barasa in the Kakamega governor race. Malala was at the center of Mudavadi abandoning OKA and decamping to Ruto’s side and on that ground, many thought he would be rewarded as first amongst equals.
Senior economist David Ndii was also expected to make it as the treasury SC having come up with the Hustler manifesto popularly known as the bottom up. Also in the list was Millicent Omanga who has for the longest time backed Ruto despite the threats of her nomination being withdrawn. How Ruto appointed Mr. Machogu from Kisii and left her out is still a puzzle.
Others are Mohammed Jicho Pevu, Okoth Obado, William Kabogo, Waititu, Jaguar, Didmus Barasa, Dennis Itumbi amongst others.
