The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has given a list of eleven counties in Kenya that could have had their election outcomes compromised by three Venezuelans if their plans were to succeed.
In a detailed statement, the DCI gave a blow by blow account of how the suspected Venezuelans arrested at the airport sneaked into the country with expired passports.
Previously, the Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman had condemned the national Police service for arresting IEBC officials who were meant to deliver on the election day.
However, investigations by DCI reveal that the three were neither invited into the country by the commission nor Smartmatic company. Instead, they were invited by an individual going by the name Abdulahi Abdi Mohamed who is not even an employee of the electoral commission.
The DCI therefore wondered why Chebukati was defending these Venezuelans and terming them “IEBC officials” which was not the case since they had no invitation letter from the commission to execute on their behalf.
Interestingly, even Abdulahi who had allegedly invited the three foreigners (they had an invitation letter from him) denied the three individuals when asked by the detectives.
The DCI therefore wondered why these individuals not officially related with the IEBC were in possession of sensitive election materials related to 10,000 polling stations.
The polling stations were in the following counties as narrated by the DCI in a detailed statement: Nairobi county which had three roles of the election stickers, Kiambu county which had two roles of the stickers, Meru county which had two, Machakos county which had one role, Murang’a county which had one, Bomet county which had one, Tharaka Nithi with one, Nyandarua county which had one, Kericho county which had one and finally there was an empty role with n county.
The DCI added that the commission must come clean and explain to Kenyans what was the purpose of those stickers, especially the one that was empty.
