Linet Toto sued by Bomet residents for hiring relatives in her office

Date:

Following allegations of nepotism regarding the employment of her immediate family members in her office, county woman representative Linet Toto has been sued by two residents of Bomet.

Mr. Collins Barno and Mr. Stanley Kiprotich Bii say in a lawsuit filed in Nairobi’s Employment and Labour Relations Court that she violated minimum standards of transparency, fair competition, merit, and integrity in hiring her office personnel.

Six of the 15 employees Linet Toto hired, according to their claims, are her family.

Additionally, they allege that her relatives are collectively using Sh612,000 per month in salary out of the Sh811,000 set aside for employee salaries.

However, the petitioners have not revealed the purported familial connection between each of the six employees and Linet.

The six are Dominic Mutai, deputy manager, Sheila Chepng’eno, county coordinator, Josephat Kiplangat, field officer, Pius Kiplangat, communications officer, and Emmanuel Kipkorir ,media personnel.  Bett Kipkirui is the county manager and the office of the woman representative.

They are mentioned as parties that are interested in the case for unfair employment.

The petitioners contend that the woman representative’s decision to appoint family members to public positions is not just a case of nepotism but also harmful to the administration of justice and the rule of law.
