Please deal with Orengo-Ledama asks party leader Raila in senate fight

Date:

Ledama ole Kina, the Narok Senator has reached out to his Orange Democratic Movement leader, Raila Odinga, urging him to support him in his fight against his Siaya counterpart, James Orengo.

While speaking with KTN News on Thursday, May 7, Ledama detailed that he was prepared to fight ODM’s move to de-whip him from the Senate County Public Accounts and Investments Committee and Senate Business Committee.

The fiery Senator argued that the seat was his right and Odinga ought to come to his aid as Ledama has been his staunch supporter and defender and stood with the African Union envoy when his presidential election was allegedly stolen.

“I call upon him (Odinga) to be able to call for a discussion. I haven’t had time to sit down with the party leader. I believe he is a democrat and for him to be able to save the party and the future of the nation, we have BBI coming up and a lot of things such as the handshake, we need to be able to embrace each other.

“I urge him to stand by me as my election is being stolen too. Let him support me for the future of this generation,” Ledama pleaded.

He went on to vow that he would not step down nor give up on the fight easily, because he had rightfully won the seat, despite ODM members fronting Kisii Senator Sam Ongeri as the favourite. Ledama was fronted by Jubilee members, led by Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga.

“For the future of this nation and democracy, this is a fight I am prepared to fight. I’d rather be accused of having failed but I will never let myself be accused of never having tried.

The future generation depends on my leadership now to be able to defend democracy and this is what I am prepared to do,” the ODM politician stated.

On the accusations of being an ODM mole and a Jubilee supporter, Ledama defended his name and reiterated his support for Odinga, arguing that he would never be part of those seeking to break up ODM. The allegations surfaced after Ledama was supported by Jubilee members in Senate.

“I was surprised when Omanga supported me, but she stated that she did so out of my good performance record. I am not going to speak for them (Jubilee), but we have spoken about the handshake and this is a moment to embrace it. However, I won’t entertain those coming to destroy our party or the other party.

“The Chairmanship belongs to me and it is seasonal. For me, I only have 6 months. Let me serve my term. It’s not a must I become chairman but I was elected. If by the end of the year I would have not done a good job and someone else wants to be given the job, so be it,” Ledama proclaimed.
