The launch of Maisha Namba and Digital ID ecosystem was set to take place on Monday October 2.
The event that was scheduled to take place at the Nakuru Athletic Club was to be president by the head of state, President William Ruto.
However, due to unknown reasons, the event has been postponed.
According to Julius Bitok, PS for Immigration and Citizen services a new date for the event will be communicated in due course.
“We wish to inform the public and all the stakeholders that due to unavoidable circumstance, the official launch of Maisha number and the Digital ID ecosystem that was to be presided over by President William Ruto in Nakuru county has been postponed. A new date for the launch will be communicated in due course,” the PS’s statement read.
Bitok further said that public participation and engagement forums on the same are still going on across the country.
“Any inconvenience caused by the postponement is highly regretted. Meanwhile public participation and engagement forums on Maisha Namba and Digital ID ecosystem are ongoin across the country will still continue,” he stated.
Maisha Namba is aimed at facing out the traditional IDs and birth certificates. This is a is a unique personal identification number that will be given to every Kenyan citizen upon registration.
The number is intended to serve as a lifelong identity from birth to death, where it would be translated to the death certificate number.
