Deputy president William Samoei Ruto may have to wait longer even after being declared the president elect by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairman Wafula Chebukati.
It is now emerging that the presidential transition committee are no longer interested in the process after suspending all their activities.
The move came in the wake of the Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga going to court to challenge the election of the Kenya Kwanza flagbearer William Ruto.
According to the committee, it was no longer tenable to continue with the operations of handing over power because the victory may go either way depending on how the Supreme court makes its ruling.
President Uhuru Kenyatta to the surprise of the nation appointed a Transition Committee that would oversee the handover of power to the next President. This was a shocker since those allied to deputy president William Ruto had on several occasions peddled a narrative that Uhuru was not keen on leaving power after the end of his term.
The list included Joseph Kinyua, Dr. Fred Matiangi, Karanja Kibicho, Hillary Mutyambai, Gen. Robert Kibochi, National Intelligence Service (NIS) director Philip Kameru, Anne Amadi, Kinuthia Mbugua, AG Kihara Kariuki, PS Jerome Ochieng, PS Julius Muia, PS Macharia Kamau, PS Julius Korir, PS Joe Okudo, and Solicitor General Ken Ogeto.
Under the rules and traditions of power transitions in Kenya, the committee is, among other things, expected to facilitate communication between the outgoing president and the president-elect, and the latter should be receiving intelligence briefs.
On his side, William Ruto nominated three members to represent him in the transition committee just to ensure that there was a seamless handover of power.
The three were the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party Secretary General Veronica Maina, National Assembly Speaker Justin Mututi, and Uasin Gishu Woman Representative Gladys Shollei.
