Lamu Women rep Ruweida Obo and 14 other people are lucky to be alive after surviving a boat accident.
The survivors were left with minor injuries after the accident and were treated at various hospitals in Lamu county.
According to reports, the accident occurred when the boat hit a rock at the narrow Mkanda channel in Lamu County after the captain lost control.
Obo was in company of her co-workers and local chiefs and they were heading to for Amu Island for civic education forums
Three chiefs fell into the sea along with the mobile devices, documents, cameras and the equipment they were carrying.
“We are all fine, just a few minor injuries but we have lost a lot of valuable gadgets and others which have been destroyed by the water,” said Obo.
Over the years, Lamu county has recorded the highest number of ocean deaths than any other county in the country.
A report by Kenya Maritime Authority indicate that 11 people died in the ocean on the shores of the county between January and December while 166 others were rescued within the same period.
