Days after being accused of assaulting a politician in the Coast, Lamu senator Anwar Loitiptip is in trouble for allegedly shooting a woman.
According to reports, the incident occurred at Kanu grounds in Nanyuki.
The senator is said to have gone into hiding after the incident that left the 32-year old woman nursing injuries.
Police received a tip off from the members of public that there was a shooting at the bar on Saturday, October 23 at 2am.
Police revealed that the woman was shot in her right leg, above the ankle.
Doctors at the Nanyuki Teaching and Referral Hospital where the victim has been receiving treatment said she is in a stable condition.
Police recovered a firearm that had 13 bullets from the senator’s security detail at the crime scene
Loitiptip told reporters that he was receiving treatment at a hospital and will soon address the issue.
“I am at a hospital for some checkup and will speak on the matter later, but the truth is that I was attacked by a knife-wielding gang last night,” Loitiptip said.
County Criminal Investigations Officer (CCIO) for Laikipia Onesmus Towett said that Loitiptip had informed the police that he had also been injured in the incident and was seeking medical attention in Nairobi.
“We established that the senator had already travelled to Nairobi but we called him and he told us that he had been confronted by two women and a man and that he shot in self-defence,” Towett stated.
During the Thursday incident, Loitiptip allegedly assaulted Francis Mugo who is eyeing the Lamu senatorial seat via DP William Ruto’s UDA ticket.
The incident happened shortly after DP Ruto had boarded a flight from the county after completing his tour.
Loitiptip is also accused of threatening to drown Mugo in the Indian ocean.
