The huge load has captivated Kenyans with those who came across it seizing the opportunity to capture the moment.
The ship, now popularly known as Mnyama, left Mombasa 23 days ago, and on Friday, it finally arrived in Uganda through the Malaba border.
The Kenya Power and Lighting Company has been monitoring the load’s journey and at the Malaba border, the company handed over the ship to Uganda’s electricity company.
“Finally! Our technical teams across the Kenya – Uganda transport corridor successfully provided a safe passage for the delivery of this mammoth cargo, a ship that left Mombasa 23 days ago destined for a neighbouring country.
“Our Kisumu and Bungoma Live-Line teams received the cargo from the North Rift team and delivered it across the border to Uganda at the Malaba border. Hongera teams zetu, nyinyi ni watu wa Power! Over to our UETCL/Umeme counterparts in Uganda,” read a post on KPLC’s Facebook account.
KPLC was part of the Ship’s journey as because it’s engineers were called upon to disconnect low-lying electricity lines because of the cargo’s height which is 6 meters.
