Several youths in Kisumu are hunting for a group of people who conned the Ksh500 each under the pretext that they (con artists) would help them have a one-on-one meeting with Deputy President William Ruto during the DP’s planned tour in the region.
Those who were conned said the said “organizers” assured the youths that they would get a huge financial boost after meeting the Deputy President. The victims were told the Deputy President will visit the lakeside city on Saturday, October 3.
“We have now learned that the DP’s visit to Kisumu has not even been confirmed and that the said-organizers do not even know Ruto’s protocol staff,” one of the victims told K24.
According to Bernard Odinga, a resident of Kisumu referred to the “planners” of the meeting with Ruto as “conman”.
“The Deputy President is a high-ranking government official, who is a public servant. No one should pay to see him or attend his functions,” told K24.
The said “organizers” have since gone into hiding.
Deputy President William Ruto is said to be planning to visit Kisumu after holding successful rallies in neighboring Kisii county on September 10. However, the DP’s official tour date remains excommunicated.

It is reported that William Ruto is relying on his recent political acquisition, Eliud Owalo, and former Kisumu Trade and Industrialisation executive, Richard Ogendo, to lay the groundwork for his maiden visit to Kisumu.
Last month the Orange Democratic Movement party officials urged Ruto to just visit the county but cautioned him against verbally attacking Raila Odinga during the visit.
On September 18, Prof Ayiecho Olweny, the coordinating committee chairperson of ODM in Kisumu said William Ruto is welcomed in Kisumu but should be cautious against engaging in a bitter verbal assault against ODM leader Raila Odinga.
“If someone insults your friend, your father, your associate, you won’t be happy. We always watch him (DP Ruto) on television insulting the [ODM] Party leader. We are requesting him not to do that when he tours Kisumu,” Olweny said.
