Kiptum’s Coach Family Reject Autopsy Report

Date:

The family of the late world marathon record holder Kelvin Kiptum’s coach Gervais Hakizimana has rejected the autopsy results released on Friday, February 16.

Addressing the media after receiving the postmortem report, the family of the Rwandese coach noted that the nature and degree of the injuries are inconsistent with the initial appearance of their kin moments after the tragedy.

Hakizimana’s niece Sandrine indicated that the autopsy results differed from how they first viewed the body of the deceased.

“When we viewed him, he did not have fractures at all. We therefore reject this report,” She stated.

Sandrine called on the government of Kenya to investigate the cause of their kin’s death and file a comprehensive report.

“For us, we are about to leave and take the body but we are requesting the government of Kenya to do thorough investigations because we are not satisfied with the information we got and everything that we saw, ” she insisted.

According to the autopsy examination conducted by pathologist Dr Benson Macharia, Kiptum’s trainer died as a result of a head injury, which was consistent with the police report on the car accident.

“He died of inter-cranial bleeding due to head injury which is consistent with head injuries. The neck and head had fractures, which are consistent with the accident report,” stated Dr. Macharia.
