The Kikuyu Council of Elders has endorsed a truce between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Speaking on Wednesday October 11, the elders pleaded with the two leaders to bury their political differences and forge a united front.
The council’s national chairman, Wachira Kiago, emphasized that their unity was vital in steering development agenda in the Mt Kenya region.
Moreover Wachira Kiago noted that Gachagua should not be castigated for opening up to working with Uhuru.
“Gachagua is right and he should not be castigated over the recent move that he will reach out to Uhuru, nothing is permanent in politics and the two should unite the community,” Wachira stated.
In an exclusive interview with Inooro FM on Friday, October 6, 2023, Deputy President Gachagua revealed a new willingness to engage in dialogue, indicating a softening of his once-hardline position against Kenyatta.
He also called on Mt Kenya leaders to drop attacks directed at Uhuru.
On Monday October 9, President William Ruto also lauded Uhuru after launching a ship built by Kenya Navy.
Ruto noted that Uhuru had set pace for marine development in the country.
Their new stance left political pundits with many questions especially after reports on a fallout between Gachagua and Ruto over shareholding sentiments.
However, Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura dismissed division talks insisting that the President and his deputy were speaking the same language.
