The Kenya Film Classification board has broken silence on the obscene and inappropriate songs released by Gospel singers Embarambamba and William Getumbe.
The board also did not spare Bishop ‘Johanna’, who was captured touching a woman inappropriately in the name of casting out demons.
In a statement on Wednesday, KFCB was concerned that children, who are proceeding on half term this week would come across such content.
“Some of the content is being propagated as art and freedom of expression and disguised as religious songs, contravening the law, in utter disregard for the interest and safety of children and public at large,” KFCB stated.
The Film board added that;”To cite but a few, the culprits include artists going by the name Chris Embarambamba, whose latest title is ‘Niko Uchi’ among other songs and William Getumbe, of the blasphemous Yesu Ninyandue. The unpalatable songs, which also contravene Films and stage Plays Act Cap 222 of the laws of Kenya are circulating on social media and other media platforms, eliciting sharp reactions and outcry from the public.”
KFCB noted that Embarambamba’s song Niko Uchi was a ridicule to the Christian religion as it also contains vulgar language and nudity.
Further, KFCB said that the dancing styles are violent and can be disastrous and dangerous if copied by children.
KFCB also stated that it had issues letter to Embarambamba and Getumbe to pull down their songs from various streaming platforms.
“Failure to which, they will face the law in line to films and stage plays act cap 222 of the laws of Kenya.
“Letter have been issued to relevant platforms to pull down the inappropriate content of Chris Embarambamba and William Getumbe,” KFCB said
The board went ahead to warn content creators and film makers who have no filming licences.
“No film or class of film should be distributed, exhibited and broadcast, either publicly or privately, unless the board has examined it and issued a certificate of approval,” KFCB noted.
