Senior Counsel Paul Kibugi Muite has refuted claims that he is ailing from cancer after a photo of him looking weak went viral on social media.
Through his official account on twitter, Muite laughed off the claims noting that he had been intentionally losing weight so as to control his sugar levels.
He further said that he spent an hour and a half jogging in Ngong forest on Friday morning when his photo was being discussed on social media.
“Reports on social media that I am sick with cancer are NOT TRUE. Given my age, I have had to shed off weight on purpose to keep sugar levels where they should be otherwise I have never felt better; enjoyed 1 & 1/2 hrs jogging in Ngong forest this morning” Muite said.
A section of netizens have however not been convinced by his explanation with some saying that it is evident, in the viral photo, that he is not well.
“It is not shedding off weight SC that is malnutrition. Keep fit but not malnourished,” one commented on his tweet.
“Si uwa mnasema tu hivyo until BREAKING NEWS and Lee starts to trend,” said another.
“If shedding weight will make me look sick, I’d rather stay obese. Si destiny ni jamo?” read another comment while another said, “There is no shame in sickness, maybe you may deny your death who knows.”
Raila Odinga’s presidential campaign spokesperson Prof. Makau Mutua however confirmed that Muite was in good health since he had met him along with his grandson at a food kiosk in Nairobi recently.

Netizens were quick to wish Muite a quick recovery after a latest photo of him, in company of an unidentified woman surfaced on social media.
People concluded that he was suffering from cancer and his tweets about pesticides since 2018 confirmed the suspicions.
“The most dangerous #pesticide you’ve never heard of: #Chlorpyrifos is linked to baby brain damage and #cancer, and it’s all over our fruit and veg! But finally we have an opportunity to get it out of our food. Let’s get it banned! Sign the petition & RT,” Muite tweeted in July 2019.
