Kenyans Linked To Tanzania’s Biggest Fraud Where Maternity Bills Were Paid For ‘Pregnant’ Men

Date:

It has been established that the National Health Insurance Fund in Tanzania paid medical bills for men to undergo CS and normal delivery.

This is according to the 2020-2021 report of the country’s Controller and Auditor general that was made public on Tuesday.

The report revealed that a total of 731 men participated in the fraud.

“I reviewed and identified that false claims were submitted by health facilities and were paid Tsh14,409,200 ($6,211). I also identified that there were 56 claims that showed that men received caesarean operation or normal delivery service,” the CAG said.

The CAG noted that 444 members received full blood picture examination multiple times on a single day

“In fact, some even more than 30 times at the same health facility,” the CAG revealed.

Reacting to the report, a number of netizens said that such things only happen in Africa as others linked the incident to Kenyans.

“Eh! Men undergoing caesarean section and others having normal delivery? Are men in Tanzania very very different from other men – that they even get pregnant?” one posed.

“It seems they hired a Kenyan consultant. I didn’t know they have known such ways. We sure are an EAC,” read a comment by Odoyo Abiero.

“You mean they did this on their own without consulting the experts@nhifkenya

Pretty cheeky if you ask me@KenyaMedics_KMA,”Melvin Dlima said

“They’re compensating for lost opportunities during Magufuli,” read another comment.

In a separate incident, the report reveals that members received spectacles more than once per year yet the law allows such services just one in the stated period.

Within the 2020-2021n period, it was also established that 7, 556 claims worth Tshs 69.1 were made yet the names of beneficiaries did not correspond with those on the card holder’s.
