Kenya has recorded 544 more coronavirus cases bringing the total caseload in the country to 19,125.
Addressing a media briefing, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe said the new cases are from 5,259 samples tested in the last 24 hours.
“It is possible the weather is also part of the reason COVID-19 figures are going up. It is the flu season,” he said adding that men should be careful and in particular young men.
CS Kagwe added that the sale of alcohol at eateries was banned because it deters the social distancing measures aimed at combating the spread of the virus.
He urged Kenyans to take responsibility for their own health by not congregating together and adhere to other control measures.
“Nunulia watoto kitu..patia mama pesa….Hata Mmimi nitafanya vile vile…nilikiwa nafurahia Kagwe special lakini sasa hapana…We must also stay alive…You save me I save you..,” he said.
The CS further noted that 634 health workers have tested positive which he said is about 3% of the cases reported.
However, he averred that the figure is still low compared to numbers reported globally on medics.
Kagwe also criticised doctors allegedly “misbehaving” and not adhering to COVID-19 regulations.
According to him, one doctor who turned positive attempted to continue offering services at a medical facility but was reported by a nurse.

“If we preach water let’s take water not wine,” he said adding that the highest level of discipline is expected from frontline soldiers.
He further asserted that personal protective gear is sufficiently available for all 47 counties.
12 more deaths were reported on Wednesday raising the COVID-19 death toll to 311.
Meanwhile, 113 people have since recovered from the virus with total number of recoveries now at 8,021.
