Kenya was named Africa’s Leading Destination in the World Travel Awards on Monday, October 16.
In the ceremony held at Dubai’s new landmark resort, Atlantis Royal, Nairobi was also named the best Business destination.
Fairmont Mount Kenya Safari Club was voted ‘Africa’s Leading Hotel’.
Graham Cooke, Founder, WTA, stated: “It has been a privilege to welcome our winners from across Africa and the Indian Ocean for our 30th anniversary celebrations in Dubai. The incredible evening will live long in everyone’s memory. Our winners represent stellar examples of tourism excellence, and I congratulate each and everyone for helping to raise the collective benchmark to even greater heights”.
Kenya Airways also scooped an award during the ceremony. The national carrier was named Africa’s Leading Airline for its economy and in-flight magazine (Msafiri).
That was 5th year KQ scooped the title after receiving similar awards in 2011, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
It was also the second consecutive year that Msafiri magazine has been named Africa’s Leading Inflight Magazine.
“This award is a testament that our ‘customer–first’ strategy is bearing fruit. It is also a vote of confidence from customers in the initiatives we have implemented to improve customer experience across all touchpoints,” Allan Kilavuka, Kenya Airways Group Chief Executive Officer and MD, stated.
“It is about listening to the customers and understanding their needs,” Kilavuka noted adding that the company’s goal is to be the preferred African carrier by improving its customer experience.”
WTA was established in 1993 to acknowledge, reward, and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the tourism industry.
Other Winners
Cape Town collected the honour of ‘Africa’s Leading City Destination’, and Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Conservation Area won ‘Africa’s Leading Tourist Attraction’. ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Wedding Destination’ went to Mauritius, while ‘Indian Ocean’s Leading Honeymoon Destination’ was claimed by Seychelles.
The thriving South African hub Durban took the coveted title of ‘Africa’s Leading Meetings & Conference Destination’.
