Kenya and Haiti have formalized the deployment of 1000 police officers for peace mission in the Caribbean country that has been hit by gangs.
The reciprocal agreement was signed on Friday by Interior CS Kithure Kindiki and the Haiti Secretary General of the council of ministers Alex Richard.
The High Court, while declaring the deployment of Kenyan Police Officers to Haiti illegal, advised that the security personnel can only be deployed on a reciprocal agreement between the two countries. President William Ruto said that his government will adhere ‘to the court order, and appeal as it works to put in place the reciprocal agreement.’
The signing of the agreement was witnessed by president Ruto and Haiti Prime minister Ariel Henry.
“I am pleased to inform you that Prime Minister Ariel Henri and I have witnessed the signing of this instrument. We have also discussed the next steps to enable the fast-tracking of the deployment,” Ruto stated.
“From Kenya, we are ready for this deployment, and I request all the other partners across the globe to step up so that we can provide a response in good time,” he also said during the occasion.

Haiti Prime Minister on the other hand thanked the president and the country for agreeing to be part of the peace mission, and also expressed hope that peace will finally be restored in his country.
“What this mission is bringing is hope for the future of humankind, for a people who cannot see how they will live tomorrow,” the prime minister said.
