South Africa has over the years been ranked as Africa’s top golf destination, but interestingly Kenya has dethroned the rainbow nation in 2020 ranking.
The 2020 World Golf Awards gala ranked Kenya as the top Africa’s best golf destination, beating competition from South Africa, Morocco and Egypt.
The 2020 award gala was scheduled to take place at the Park Hyatt in Dubai but it was cancelled due to rising cases of covid-19, winners were instead notified through their websites.
Karen Country Club was named the best golf course for 2020, nominated from a list of 10 clubs that included Muthaiga Golf Club, Nyali Golf and Country Club, Windsor Golf Hotel and Country Club, Thika Greens Resort, Sigona Golf Club, Mombasa Golf Club, Leisure Lodge, Royal Nairobi, Vipingo Ridge’s Baobab Course.
The Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort in Naivasha, Nakuru county was voted Kenya’s best golf hotel.
The World Golf Awards is a major boost to Kenya’s Golf Tourism Industry, particularly after the Covid-19 pandemic which has nearly crippled the tourism industry.
It was only in 2018 that Kenya was mentioned as the best undiscovered golf destination, the big win in 2020 is an indicator that the country has potential to attract international golfers.
Even though Kenya was voted as Africa’s best golf destination, South Africa’s Pinnacle Point Golf Course emerged as the best golf course in Africa.
