Immaculate Mwende Mwirigi was killed by her boyfriend Emmanuel Walugu Onyango, a KDF officer, on Friday night.
The incident occurred in Nanyuki in an apartment where they reportedly lived together. The KDF officer sprayed bullets on Mwende before turning the rifle on himself, shooting himself through the chin with the bullet exiting through the back of his head.
The motive behind the murder is yet to be established but it is said to have been a case of love gone sour. Investigations into the murders are still going on however it is believed that the two began in 2021..
A spot check on Mwende’s Facebook account shows that she would share Onyango’s photos oftenly and even made it public that she was in a relationship.
On October 11, 2021, she however shared a post indicating that all was not well.
“It hurts when you realize you aren’t as important to someone as you thought you were,” she said.
On the other hand, it is evident that the KDF officer had multiple Facebook accounts. In one of his old accounts, he talked about committing suicide. That was back on September 25, 2013.
“I am planning on committing suicide but I am still afraid, I don’t know what to do,” Onyango wrote
It has however turned out that the army man was married and lived with his wife as well. Mwende is allegedly knew about that. On the fateful day, he reportedly excused himself from his official home after supper saying that he had debts to clear.
He then headed to Mwende’s apartment. Whatever happened between them before Walugu opened fire still remains unclear.
A neighbor heard the gunshots and called the police who rushed to the scene and found the door locked from inside. They forced themselves into the building. Mwende was already dead. Onyango, who still had a pulse, was rushed to Nanyuki Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
