Many candidates who were supposed to seat their KCSE and KCPE exams this year will surely be unhappy to hear the news that the exams might be sat in April next year if schools are re-opened by September.
This information was conveyed by Education CS George Magoha who appeared before the Senate Ad Hoc Committee after the COVID-19 pandemic.
And the CS added that the September re-opening date might not even happen as intended due to the rising number of coronavirus cases.
“We are looking at the calendar at what time we can open schools and do exams, if we opened in September we might do exams in April, beyond that it won’t be feasible to do the exams,” said Magoha.
“Although we intended to open in September, as of now I can’t say if that will be possible. At this stage, our numbers are going up, and we might have a peak in September or October and we will decide if we would want to open our schools.”
And that isn’t the worst-case scenario, he added that if the exams are not held in April 2021, it might not be possible to have the tests held next year.

The CS said if the national exams won’t be done by April 2021, “then we must be prepared for what I don’t want to say at the moment.”
