The county assembly of Meru has yet again impeached Kawira Mwangaza.
The impeachment was tabled by Nominated MCA Zipporah Kinya, who accused her of gross misconduct, abuse of office and gross violation of the constitution.
MCAs voted for her ouster on Thursday, with 49 of them supporting the impeachment while 17 of them voted in favour of Mwangaza. Only 3 MCAs were unavailable to vote.
Mwangaza’s fate now lies in the hands of senators, who have saved her twice before.
Reacting to the impeachment, Mwangaza noted that it shall pass.
“This too will come to pass. Gavana ni mama. #MbauyaNgai,” she said.
Mwangaza was first impeached in December 2022, just four months after winning the governor seat in general elections.
Her second impeachment came in October 2023.
Accusations she faced then include; misappropriation and misuse of county resources, nepotism, unethical acts, demeaning other leaders and illegal appointments.
Others are contempt of court and county assembly and illegally naming a road after her husband.
