Meru Governor has officially joined the ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
The first term announced her decision to join President William Ruto’s party on Wednesday, April 3.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, Mwangaza noted that the decision to join came after a series of consultations and prayers.
To make it clear, Mwangaza announced that she is ready to work with the party and she will defend her gubernatorial seat on a UDA ticket.
“I have prayed and asked God to give us direction. So today I have to say that this is the sign and the party is UDA. There is no secret here, in 2027 I will be a UDA candidate,” she announced.
“President William Ruto is my friend and this is the party that respects and gives opportunities to women,” she added.
In her acceptance speech, Mwangaza extended an olive branch to Meru leaders asking them to drop political differences and agree to work together.
Mwangaza who was elected on an independent ticket described the decision as historical which she insisted was key to transforming politics in Meru.
