Narc Kenya party leader Martha Karua has vowed that she would never accept any nomination from the sitting president William Ruto.
While appearing on Citizen TV on Tuesday night, Karua explained why she wouldn’t want Ruto as her boss.
“I wouldn’t work for William Ruto. Whatever changes and whatever quality of people he gets, he is the minister for everything. He will not let anybody work. I know Raila is easy to work with, you can differ but you can sit across the table and discuss it. There is no way I would accept to work for William Ruto and they didn’t ask me, they also know my position,” she said.
Karua however criticized the Ruto-Raila deal that saw ODM members land cabinet positions. Karua noted that their actions were unconstitutional and contrary to the law.
“Whereas the Gen Z have been asking for transparency and accountability, these appointments have lowered the bar because they seek to violate the design of the Constitution, they also seek to lower the bar on accountability,” she said.
“This (broad-based government) is a come-we-stay marriage, it is illegal, it is unconstitutional and it will lead to unconstitutionality in the conduct of the business of Parliament.”
Karua noted that ODM should have first relinquished their position as opposition, before entering a deal with yhe government.
“A very interesting confession by my former boss… he first denied that ODM had entered government saying that they had entered as individuals. Now what he is saying is obvious that he actually nominated them and gave them over to the government,” she noted.
“When the opposition or part of it enters government, they cannot enter through the backdoor. The law is very clear, the constitutional design is such that it recognises the majority side and the minority side is the Opposition.”
