Steven Kalonzo Musyoka’s candidate Eshio Maundu Mwaiwa emerged distant third in the just concluded by-election in Nguu-Masumba ward in Makueni county.
Timothy Maneno defeated United Democratic Alliance (UDA’s) candidate Daniel Kivuva Musau and Wiper’s Eshio Maundu Mwaiwa to secure the hotly contested race.
As a result, Kalonzo Musyoka was on Thursday night to concede defeat and congratulate the independent candidate Timothy Maneno for emerging victorious.
“We take this early opportunity to congratulate Timothy Maneno on winning the Nguu/Masumba ward seat on an independent ticket.
We also thank the other candidates including our Wiper candidate Eshio Mwaiwa and UDA’s Daniel Musau for putting up a brave fight to capture the seat.
The people of Nguu-Masumba have spoken through the ballot and we honour their decision.” Wrote Kalonzo in a statement.
At the same time, Kalonzo Musyoka also turned his anger on deputy president William Ruto by vowing to take over the leadership of the country and fight corruption to the last man. He also blamed violence witnessed in sections of the ward.
“The violence witnessed in sections of the ward was unnecessary and against the Wiper ideals and ethos. This does not deter our resolve to take the leadership of this country and deal a deathly blow to corruption once and for all.
On his side, Kivutha Kibwana thanked the residents of Nguu-Masumba ward for electing Timothy maneno, insisting that a new chapter had began with regards to the region’s politics.Â
I congratulate the People of Nguu/Masumba Ward for their determination to uphold democratic ideals. They have spoken loud and clear in electing Hon. Timothy S Maneno. I thank all the gallant leader-volunteers who supported The Independent candidate in all ways. We have opened a new chapter in our region’s and country’s politics.
