Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka received a shot in the arm after a section of leaders threw their weight behind him for the 2027 Presidential race.
The Wiper Democratic Movement party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) pledged to rally behind him as a candidate to face President William Ruto.
Led by the party’s Secretary General Shakila Abdala and Matungulu MP Stephen Mule, the faction expressed confidence that Musyoka’s fellow Azimio la Umoja One Kenya co-principals will back his candidature.
“Our loyalty is with Azimio and the people of Kenya…most importantly is that Kenyans have endorsed Dr Kalonzo Musyoka. Watch this space…100 per cent of hustlers are speaking to Kalonzo Musyoka,” Mule stated.
The former Vice President is yet to announce his candidacy for the 2027 race. However, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga hinted at supporting him because of his loyalty. Raila’s sentiments were however disputed by his close allies.
Recently Kalonzo hosted former President Uhuru Kenyatta in Mwingi sending a bold statement on his intention to battle it out with Ruto in 2027.
Besides succession politics, the party officials also threatened to table an impeachment motion against the current regime over the rising cost of living.
They also demanded that the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) co-chaired by Musyoka highlight how the cost of living will be addressed failure to which they would go back to mass action.
The MPs, who addressed the press after the party’s NEC meeting on Tuesday, vowed to put the Kenya Kwanza administration on its toes to heed the plea of Kenyans.
“If the cost of living for Kenyans will not go down, then the bipartisan talks will not go anywhere. There are other issues but our priority is the cost of living. Kenyans are hurting…prices have risen…and we can’t afford to suffer for the next three years,” Abdalla said.
