All is not lost for Wiper Democratic party leader Kalonzo Musyoka after losing the speaker post to the former Kilifi governor Amason Kingi.
The Wiper party had withheld one of its nomination slots to parliament and it is now emerging that the same may go for Kalonzo Musyoka.
As if that is not enough, sources reveal that Kalonzo Musyoka will be the minority leader where he will be expected to spearhead the opposition from within and outside parliament.
While all the major parties named the candidates they picked for the parliamentary slots, it’s only Wiper party that did not forward the name.
ODM had three candidates to parliament namely Irine Nyakerario Mayaka, John Mbadi Ngongo, Umulker Harun Mohamed. Jubilee has former Murang’a woman rep Sabina Wanjiru Chege. It’s only Wiper that did not reveal the one name which may likely go to Kalozno Musyoka before Azimio makes him either the minority or majority leader.
The issue of majority/minority leadership is likely to cause problems in both the houses because legally Azimio has many senators/members of parliament. However, most of these Azimio legislators have crossed over to the Kenya Kwanza side and this has left many wondering which side will represent minority or majority.
Sources have revealed that it will be upon the speakers of both the houses to determine which side will represent minority or majority. Azimio side has always maintained that they have the numbers legally while Kenya Kwanza have equally claimed the majority status following the defection of Independent members to their side.
In the meantime, Amason Kingi was overwhelmingly voted by all the 46 senators in the house, making him be the first speaker in the history to win on round one.
