Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has expressed his readiness to spearhead opposition agenda in the absence of Raila Odinga.
Kalonzo has reassured that there will be no leadership vacuum within the Azimio coalition should its leader Raila Odinga secure the African Union (AU) Commission Chairmanship position.
Kalonzo, who has set his sights on the presidency in 2027, conveyed to Odinga’s supporters in Homa Bay on Wednesday that he stands ready to fill the void for those who may feel the absence of Raila in politics.
“If you are missing Baba, there is Uncle Stevo,” Kalonzo told participants attending the Homa Bay Investment Conference.
Raila’s pursuit of the AU Commission post continues to stir concern among his backers, particularly within his own party, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), which he heads.
Kalonzo however, provided reassurance that he would guide the opposition in the right direction if allowed to lead.
“I hope I am convincing you that there is absolutely no need for fear,” he said.
However, Raila insisted that he was not leaving Kenyan politics.
“Let me respond to some issues being raised. I am not going anywhere, I am around. I have been running around trying to get support from different heads of state. I went to the President of Uganda after I had talked to him to go and ask for his support. We met there with Mr Ruto who had also gone there to talk about issues they are having with oil, the G to G,” Raila stated.
