Wiper leader Steven Kalonzo Musyoka has cornered president Uhuru Kenyatta and the opposition leader Raila Amollo Odinga with fresh demands.
According to a local daily, Raila and Kalonzo are involved in serious talks that could see them reunite by May 30th this month.
The Star reports that despite Kalonzo declaring his presidential bid and unveiling his runningmate on Monday, he is likely to shelve his ambitions and support the Azimio presidential candidate ahead of the August general elections.
Besides, the Wiper party leader is yet to move to court to withdraw from the Azimio coalition as he had planned earlier.
Sonko News has also learnt that Kalonzo may be softening his hardline stand because his troops have refrained from attacking Raila Odinga, something which has been perceived as a directive from above.
Previously, Raila while naming his runningmate named Musyoka as the chief cabinet secretary if Azimio forms the next government but the Wiper boss is said to be considering the post with a number of conditions on the table.
One of the conditions is that the post of the chief cabinet secretary has to be included in the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance coalition agreement and deposited with the registrar of political parties so that he is guaranteed of the same.
The former vice president in the Kibaki administration is also said to be keen on not repeating previous mistakes where they agreed with words of mouth only for such agreements to be rubbished by the other party.
On his side, Makueni senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior hinted that the Orange Democratic Movement leader and the Wiper boss are still negotiating and they may come to a consensus by the end of this month.
“All is not lost. There is that window between now and May 30. They (Raila and Kalonzo) are still negotiating .” He said.
Mutula continued that the agreement must be captured on paper. This is what he said: “What our leader is being promised is hot air. It is not captured anywhere. How can we trust that?”
