Kabete Killing Spree: Locals Protest Demanding To Know Why An Officer With Mental Issues Was At Work

Date:

Kabete area locals have staged demonstrations following an early morning incident whereby a police officer shot and killed 6 people.

The locals are said to have barricaded the area and blocked the Nairobi-Nakuru road with stones and bonfires.

Police constable Benson Imbatu who was attached at the Kabete police station first killed his wife in their house before attacking the other victims during the 1am incident. He then turned the rifle himself.

Two of those who were shot dead were boda boda riders and a DJ who had just left a funeral. Two survivors are still receiving treatment at the Kenyatta National Hospital.

The motive behind the killings is still unclear but residents who spoke to Mpasho claim that they were informed that the officer had mental issues.

“We have been told that the cop had mental issues, then why won’t the OCS come here and talk to us? This is tragic, we cannot accept this, we have raised these kids in the midst of hardship selling mboga to feed and educate them only for them to be slaughtered like chickens. There will be no peace until this is resolved,” the locals protested.

The agitated locals questioned why the officer was at work yet he was not in the right state of mind.

“We have been told the officer had mental issues. Why was he at work? a local posed.

“Saa hizi hakuna kazi, mavijana walikua wametoka matanga akina Ojodhe, Jadu, Wiki, Georges an Kevo, so sasa after matanga walicome wengine mguu, wengine na nduthi, huyo karao ni kama kichwa yake ni mbaya, alikua anasimamisha tuu kijana kama huyu anampiga risasi mwenye anaponea anahepa anamshot kwa mguu,” another one said.
