The Kenya Airports Authority has denied claims that operations at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport were disrupted following the power blackout that hit most parts of the country on Friday night, including Nairobi.
In a statement, the Authority noted that the reports were false and misleading.
KAa added the power backup systems were activated immediately after the blackout.
“KAA would like to clarify that reports circulating on social media regarding disruptions to operations at the JKIA due to the nationwide power outage are FALSE & MISLEADING.
“The backup power systems and generators at the airport were activated promptly following tonight’s national grid outage, ensuring that the airport maintained full electricity supply without any interruption to services or flight operations,” the Airport Authority stated.
“We assure the public that JKIA remains fully operational, & passengers can expect seamless service throughout their travel experience. The safety & security of our passengers are our top priorities, & we are dedicated to upholding the highest standards in airport operations,” KAA further said.
According to the Kenya Power and Lighting Company, only the North Rift and parts of Western Kenya didn’t experience the power. interruption.
KPLC however didn’t immediately state the cause of the blackout.
“We regret any inconvenience caused and urge for patience from our customers as we work towards restoring normalcy at the earliest opportunity.
“We will issue an update on power restoration as soon as possible,” KPLC said.
