Services at Wilson Airport were disrupted following the runway light outage that hit the facility.
In a statement released late on Thursday, April 11, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced the outage at the busy facility.
The airport’s authority explained that the outage was caused by an unprecedented technical hitch.
“We would like to inform the public that the runway lights at Wilson Airport are currently out of service due to a technical fault. Our team is in the process of identifying the root cause,” read the statement.
KAA apologised for the hitch informing passengers that it was working around the clock to address the issue.
“As a precautionary measure, a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) has been issued. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause to our valued passengers and stakeholders,” KAA added.
By the time of this publication, KAA had not issued an update on the issue. It is not yet clear if the planes were diverted to the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) due to the hitch.
