Aden Duale’s woes as National Assembly majority leader are way far from over after 126 MPs from the Jubilee Party signed for his ouster from the position.
Among other people who have supported Kieni MP Kanini Kega’s impeachment motion include Kipipiri MP Amos Kimunya who was recently appointed secretary for Jubilee coalition in parliament.
Kimunya was made secretary for the coalition during the State House parliamentary group meeting but according to the earlier plan he was meant to replace Duale as the majority leader.
Speaking to K24 TV, Kimunya said according to the earlier plan before they met at State House all the House positions were to be reshuffled and majority of the MPs were left dissapointed when Duale was retained in his position.
The former Finance minister argued that the Garissa Township MP had lost the confidence of majority of the ruling party’s lawmakers after failing to unite his political troops for a common cause. “The title is leader of the majority party. Not a manager leader.
One of the things the leader is expected to do is bring everyone together, build consensus, harness synergies of different members,” he said.
According to Kimunya, Duale’s continued stay in the position will definitely work against President Uhuru Kenyatta’s plans and development agenda at the National Assembly.
“We are 216 members of the Jubilee Coalition. Out of 216, if 126 are saying we don’t want you as our leader, we’ve lost our trust, then you are left with 90 which is a minority. “So, if I was in that position myself, I would seriously reconsider. Do I have the trust of the membership that I’m supposed to lead in parliament?” he posed.
The Kipipiri MP said the new wave of signature collection for Duale’s oust was sparked by the fact that he was among those who were highly expected to be ousted but that did not happen leaving many with questions.
Kimunya said more MPs are likely to sign up the list and the majority may be out of his position soOner than expected. In an interview with Citizen TV on Tuesday, June 2, Duale downplayed the intricacies behind his survival saying he is not a prisoner of war or under any captivity and has not had any accident to warrant his removal.
He retorted that those collecting signatures needed to familiarise themselves with the process of removing majority leader as by the House standing orders.
