Joseph Ochieng Handa aka Obude met his death mysteriously a few days ago, leaving Kenyans from all walks of life wondering what really transpired.
While politicians allied to the deputy president blamed their competitors for his death, the competitors equally threw blame games right at the doorstep of William Ruto.
Lang’ata member of parliament Hon Generali Nixon Korir who is an ally of the deputy president claimed that Joseph Ochieng Obude was a victim of the extrajudicial killing for taking an unpopular political stand in Dagoretti North.
As a result, Mr. Korir without providing any evidence believed that Obude was tortured and killed for joining the hustler nation. His lifeless body would then be retrieved dumped in one of the mortuaries in Nyeri. The young man had taken a photo with William Ruto not far ago.
“JOSEPH OCHIENG HANDA aka OBUDE was picked by people claiming to be police on 19th Feb in Dagoretti. He’s is among the youth who had come out to support the hustler movement despite alot of intimidations and threats in Dagoretti North. Obudes body was found yesterday in Nyeri mortuary. It is very unfortunate that someone has to die for taking a political position which is his democratic right. Extrajudicial killings must stop. Rest in peace Obude.” Wrote the Lang’ata member of parliament.
On their side, those allied to the Azimio side threw the blame at the deputy president and called for the Criminal Investigators to keenly look into the matter and bring the culprit to book.
According to the Azimio side, Obude was given 450 thousand Kenya shillings to mobilize crowds for the deputy president but he allegedly disappeared with the money since no crowd was mobilized. As a result, these quarters believed that the youthful Obude might have met his death for eating/pocketing the Hustler Nation money .
“He was given 450k to mobilize crowd for DP in Dagoretti on 18th last month, and that was the last time he was seen,.His body was found today in Nyeri, RIP Obude….?” Wrote the source.
With the two sides of the political divide blaming one another for Obude’s death, it still remains a mystery what really caused the death of the youthful man several weeks after he met William Ruto.
Following the death of Obude, different Kenyans had the following to say:
“Having studied “abit” of criminology “science of criminal behavior “.I came across “Cui bono” this is an Italian terminology used to unravel motives behind murder of an individual. It simply tries to establish to whose benefit is the murder? Who are the real beneficiary of Obude’s murder? According to criminology, the beneficiary becomes the key suspect.”
“Tom mboya was killed, JM Kariuki was killed, Ouko Robert was killed, Baby Pendo was killed,…..and not to mention Msando …. All these were killed due to political reasons as well…”
“Kenyans lets b realistic coz most of your statements r causing tension, NOBODY and I repeat NOBODY KNOWS Y AND WHO KILLED OBUDE,neither u or I knows if are the police or thugs who abducted this guy and also we don’t know if this guy was killed bcoz of political issue or criminal issues so give him his last respect and pointing fingers on each other.”
“My people. Let’s reason together here. Siasa kando. Annyone being given “mobilization ” money by any politician from either side should be ready for the consequences. This money always follows you to the end. Whether you eat it or give it, you’re always at risk. When you make some progress people assume it’s “their money”. You become the target and live in fear. Keep off free political money. It is extremely expensive.”
“Some situation you don’t need to use for sympathy support Mr. Korir, with due respect mheshimiwa if you have evidence support the family to get justice but politicking won’t help to bring back a life lost .. may young man’s soul RIP.”
“We know your tricks you people !! Just continue sacrificing innocent people in the name of looking for sympathy votes ! We will see. It baffles me how the man dies then without investigations you start blaming one side of the political divide.”
“Stop seeking for sympathy in someone’s death.Besides politics, these people have a private life, have you done investigations to prove this allegations?”
“If for sure his death is as a result of his political stand (which I am sure it is the responsibility of the security agencies to ascertain), then it is very wrong. It is possible we do clean politics without violence regardless of one’s political inclination.”
“Stop politicizing everything. How many youths have their political stand and haven’t been killed? You guys must know how Obude was killed and you should be grilled to give more information. Otherwise, my condolences to his family.”
“That’s painful. My advice to any youth is before you are used by a politician think about your safety. Politics is murky and dirty.May he rest in peace.”
“On this one I can defend the system. What would the system want from a yung youth who is not even a threat to them? And how many people have defected from Azimio side and taken photos at Karen and they never die like Obude? I think there is something fishy and the DCI should swing into action.“
