Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja can now breathe a sigh of relief barely a day after The Commission for University Education (CUE) revoked the recognition of his Ugandan degree.
The high court on Wednesday suspended/stayed/quashed the decision of the commission for the University of Education purporting to revoke the recognition of the degree awarded to the senator.
While dismissing Sakaja’s degree certificate, the commission revealed that it had received new information regarding their authenticity.
“The Commission for University Education has received material information about the authenticity of the degree you presented from Team University that will require further investigation to ascertain the validity of the said degree,” read the Commission’s letter to Sakaja.
“Consequently, in accordance with the CUE’s recognition procedures, we hereby revoke the recognition of your degree – Bachelor of Science in Management (External) from the aforementioned university.”
There had been pressure from Kenyans from all quarters to compel Johnson Sakaja to prove that he went to Uganda’s Team University by producing a number of things such as details of payment of school fees, evidence that he attended class and his official admission letter.
According to these Kenyans, the aspiring Nairobi governor represents the faces of high profiled Kenyans who love shortcuts just to benefit by holding public offices.
However, the defiant Nairobi senator has not produced any of the above proofs, making Kenyans wonder if he really went through University education.
Others wondered why the senator was running to the court corridors to defend his papers instead of just going to his home drawer and producing the genuine degree certificate that he was awarded upon his alleged graduation.
Interestingly, Sakaja has maintained that he has a bachelor’s degree which he is not willing to produce as evidence.
In the meantime, his fate now lies with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) whether he will be on the ballot or not.
