John Matara Denies Killing Kanyari’s Sister Starlet Wahu

Date:

John Matara, the prime suspected in the murder of socialite Starlet Wahu has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Appearing virtually before high Court Judge Kanyi Kimondo on Friday, Matara denied the murder charges.

His lawyer Samuel Ayora has since informed the court of his plans to apply for Matara’s release on bail.

On the other hand, the prosecution is seeking to oppose his bail or bond application.

Meanwhile, the judge directed that Matara is remains in custody at Nairobi Remand Area.

Last week on Friday, Ayora claimed that Matara’s life was in danger.

According to him, his client was physically assaulted by an unknown individual while at the Makadara Law court premises.

Further challenging the court’s decision on Matara remaining in custody for 7 more days as investigations into the case went on, Ayora said that he was still unsafe in custody.

The lawyer informed the court that two people attempted to forcibly remove his client from police cells during his detention at the Industrial Area Police station.

The court however directed him to file a complaint with the police so that the assault allegations among others can be properly investigated.

Matara is accused of killing Starlet early January at an Airbnb in South B. Her body was discovered on January 3.

The accused was arrested on January 4 at Mbagathi hospital where he was receivng treatment after sustaining injuries during a scuffle with Wahu at the short term rental apartmnet.
