US President Joe Biden risks being impeached following the wrongdoings of his son Hunter Biden.
Calls for impeachment gained momentum after prosecutors announced on Thursday, September 14 they were indicting Hunter Biden for lying on the application form he used to purchase a handgun in 2018. The charges are related to his purchase of a Colt Cobra revolver handgun in October 2018, two months after a stint in rehab.
Two of the counts allege Hunter Biden lied that he was not a drug user on the federal application form he filled out to buy the weapon.
Other gun charges, questions have been raised over the past two decades about Hunter Biden’s business practices, and whether he had leveraged his name and access to his powerful father to make money and land clients.
Particular attention has been paid to what he was doing in China and Ukraine during Joe Biden’s vice presidency.
Congressman James Comer, who is leading the probe in the House of Representatives oversight committee, has alleged that the then-VP was “the brand” sold to enrich the Biden family.
On Wednesday, September 13, Republicans started voicing their support for House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
They argued that the President enabled his son to carry out business unlawfully.
“I think the American people deserve to know the facts and I am looking forward to seeing what the outcome of the inquiry is,” stated Rep. Jen Kiggans.
Rep. Richard Hudson, the chair of the campaign arm for House Republicans, dismissed the threat the impeachment investigation may have for swing-district Republicans. He said voters want transparency and accountability in government.
“As long as we follow the facts, I don’t think it hurts us,” Hudson insisted.
Other pundits argued that former US President Donald Trump will capitalize on Hunter Biden’s mistakes to campaign against his father.
