It seems Jaramogi’s curse towards his son Raila Amollo Odinga that he will never see the presidency has resurfaced and its on his neck again just three weeks to the general elections.
Knowing very well that this election is too close to call and that it would be won on voter turnout, Raila Odinga is making very basic mistakes that no shrewd politician would especially someone like him who has made four unsuccessful attempts to be the president of the Republic of Kenya.
In his two days tour around Nairobi over the weekend, the Azimio presidential candidate left many Kenyans wondering if he is keen on being the president of the republic of Kenya or whether his main focus is to build his ODM party and make the others win.
While in Mathare constituency, the opposition leader urged the Jubilee presidential candidate Kelvin Bahati to step down for ODM’s Anthony Oluoch in exchange of some future non existent post.
The same move was made in Kibra constituency where Mr. Odinga urged Imran Okoth to step down in favor of one Peter Ochieng Orero who was allegedly rigged in during the nominations according to the incumbent MP Mr. Okoth, a move which left him with no option but to go the independent route.
However, there is everything wrong with Raila’s moves to urge these candidates to step down and back ODM ones. Number one is the fact that the move will badly hurt him because it may create voter apathy in his strongholds.
Being 3 weeks to the election, it is too late to tell candidates to step down now because they have loyal supporters who have made up their minds to vote for them come rain come shine on the 9th August general election. As a result, forcing them to back down will only hurt the Azimio flag bearer because these supporters may decided to sleep on the election day since “baba ashawachagulia viongozi.”
For an election where the winner is to garner 50 plus one, it leaves Odinga’s supporters wondering if his priority is to win the presidency or whether he is more interested in the likes of Anthony Oluoch and Peter orero winning their seats as he stays in another political cold for five years. Currently, there is a famous Luo say in Odinga’s stronghold that 6 piece osegabedo kadhi to Raila dong’ wang’ni six piece emadong’ to Raila dhi (loosely translated as: “six piece has always carried the day as Raila fails, this time round we want Raila to succeed as six piece fails).
Of what benefit will it be for Jakom for akina Oluoch and Orero to win as he loses to Ruto with a narrow margin of perhaps a thousand votes simply because he encouraged voter apathy by discouraging supporters of akina bahati and Imran Okoth not to turn up on election day? (And btw Bahati and Imran are just but the few examples).
That begs the question, is the alleged Jaramogi curse rearing its ugly head again just 22 days to the general election? If so, who will slap its head once and for all so that Baba eats that thing yawa?
