Siaya County Governor H.E Cornel Rasanga Amoth yesterday received donations containing a bulk of sanitizers and disinfectants worth Ksh. 200,000 from the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University led by the Vice Chancellor Professor Stephen Agong’ at the Siaya County Referral Hospital.
Speaking at the event, Rasanga proposed a formal engagement with the university on the supply of disinfectants and sanitizers to support the county’s efforts towards enabling structured sustainable Covid 19 response.
“We look forward to engaging JOOUST and other local partners in the fight to prevent the spread of Coronavirus,” said Rasanga who also thanked other partners including Amref, PATH, Siaya Smart Start, Rotary CLUB, among others for the willingness to support the county government through ensuring a steady supply of hand washing units, sanitizers, Face-Masks, and food items that have benefited locals and health staffs in quarantine centres.
“We are in a fight for survival against the Covid-19. We thank all our partners for considering us in the hour of need,” said Rasanga.
The County boss, who is also the Co-Chair of the Siaya County Emergency Response Committee, further thanked the National Government for their support and additionally appealed to Ngo’s, state corporations, professionals and other well-wishers to enhance their support, without which it will be difficult to win the fight.

“We are happy to support any intervention of the University in dealing with the Global virus that has disrupted businesses and ruined the world’s economy,” said University Education Chief Administrative Secretary Ms.Mumina Bonaya who accompanied the County Governor together with other leaders including,JOOUST Deputy Vice- Chancellor and the team that championed the production which included,Angeline Ochung, (Molecular Genetist), Dr Magwanga, Prof Regina Nyunja (Dean JOOUST), Siaya Acting County Secretary Joseph Ogutu, Governance Executive Dismas Wakla, Agriculture Executive Elizabeth Odhiambo, Health CEC Dorothy Owino and Deputy County Commissioner Joseph Sawe.
