Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga was on Wednesday January 5 forced to disembark from his chopper to address youths in Nakuru.
Raila had boarded a chopper after attending a requiem mass of the former Nakuru mayor Joseck Thuo, who passed on on December 27, 2021.
A group of youths carrying posters and banners went after him demanding that he addresses them.
“Baba talk to us, Jakom talk to us,” the youths chanted persistently.
They wanted the ODM leader to talk to them and address issues that are affecting them including unemployment.
Raila used the opportunity to rally those who have not registered as voters to do so especially when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) wil bel conducting a second and final mass voter registration exercise.
The exercise is expected to commence on January 17, 2022.
“How many want to be Baba’s soldiers? If you want to be Baba’s soldier, you must arm yourself with a bullet and a gun, Okay? The gun is your ID card and the bullet is your vote,” Raila said.
He further said that the only way they can make him president of this country is through the ballot while urging them to exercise their constitutional right by voting.
“Voter registration will commence this month on the 17th. Those who are not registered should come out to get the gun and bullet so that Baba can be the chief soldier,” Raila said.
Nakuru governor Lee Kinyanjui who was in the company of Raila told the youths that they would organize their own Nakuru rally as they had just gone to pay their last respects to the late Thuo.
During the mass, Raila said that his main agenda on his Azimio la Umoja Movement is to ensure that communities live together in peace before and after the next general elections.
“We should not have internal refugees, people who are displaced, IDPs in the country. This we will make a thing of the past . Those whose properties have been taken by other people, we will ensure that the properties are restored to the rightful person,” the former prime minister told mourners.
