Renown comedian Eric Omondi has welcomed the court’s decision of acquitting his baby mama Jacque Maribe in the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani.
Speaking to TV 47, the self-proclaimed president of comedy in Africa said that he is happy for Jacque and her family and now she would be able to regain her normal life.
He also noted that the case had dragged for long.
“The court’s decision on Jacque’s side was very okay, and most Kenyans will agree with me that sometimes in life you find yourself somewhere. But I am happy because her family, livelihood and kid are now okay.
“I know so many people depend on her, even in her extended family. I welcome the court’s decision. Now Jacque has been given back her life. Monica’s family has also found closure. It’s not easy. It’s been five years. The case dragged on for so long,” Eric said.
Jacque was acquitted on grounds that she never knew the late businesswoman and was not at the crime scene on the night she was murdered. There had also been no communication whatsoever between them and that there was no motive for her to want the slain businesswoman dead.
On the other hand, the first accused in the case Jowie Irungu was found guilty of the murder. According to Justice Grace Nzioka, the court found that Irungu was the last person to be seen with Monica and was at his house on the night she was murdered.
He had also stolen someone else’s ID two days prior to the murder and used it to access Kimani’s apartment.
The court also found that Irungu had lied about knowing Kimani, yet they studied together in a polytechnic and took the same course.
An old video of Irungu partying with Monica and her brother was also retrieved from the convict’s phone.
