Raila Odinga surprised Kenyans after he revealed secret details of how he was tempted to engage in corrupt practices in the course of his political career.
Raila spoke on corruption in the wake of Pandora Papers which showed how corrupt world leader stole public resources and stashed billions of shillings in offshore accounts.
The ODM leader declared he has no offshore accounts during an interview on Emoo FM on Wednesday October 6th, he asked those having monies and properties outside the country to declare the same.
“I have no offshore accounts. All my wealth are within the country. I am playing locally,” said Raila.
The former Prime Minister at the same time said there was no problem with Kenyans opening offshore accounts as long as they are not used to siphon state resources or execute corruption schemes.
Raila was referring to the case of President Uhuru Kenyatta who was implicated in the Pandora Papers together with his family.
“I am sure the truth will come out. The President has said he will give more details on the claims. I want every Kenyan with offshore accounts to come out and declare them,” he said.
Raila further called for a scrutiny of wealth held by lawyers on behalf of corrupt state and public officers saying government offices subject people to temptations.
The ODM leader admitted that he too was tempted to engage in corrupt practices in the course of his political career.
“I have been in government and there are temptations. Contractors will try to influence decisions. I have rejected them before,” said Raila.
“I have been tempted to many times to partake in corruption deals but I successfully resisted them,” he added.
