Itumbi Throws Weight Behind Raila in African Union Role

Digital Strategist Dennis Itumbi has thrown his support behind Raila Odinga for the African Union Commission chairperson.

Itumbi undeclared his unwavering support for Raila to ta nike over From Mohammed Musa Faki whose term is nearing the end.

“May Raila Odinga succeed in his ambition to be the president of Africa. Kenya supports him,” Itumbi stated.

“I support him, too,” he added.

However, Itumbi challenged the Nyanza region to groom another leader to take over the leadership mantle from Raila.

He implored Embakasi East MP Dennis Itumbi, Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo among others to take center stage in regional politics.

Raila declared his interest for the AU job on Thursday February 15 after holding a series of meetings.

Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo also backed opposition leader Raila as a viable candidate for the African Union Commission top job.

Speaking in Nairobi during a press conference, Obasanjo urged East African Community (EAC) countries to support Odinga.

“I have no doubt that my friend who is standing next to me (Odinga) is the right person to take over the mantle. If the EAC region backs him, I believe the rest of the continent will support him,” Obasanjo stated.

“People who have held position of head of government either as President or PM are most suitable for this job. Looking at it critically, it is the turn of East Africa.”
