Itumbi Offers to Pay Legal Fees for Nuru Okanga Charged for Insulting Ruto

Date:

Communication Strategist Dennis Itumbi on Thursday November 30 disagreed over the arrest and prosecution of Azimio la Umoja diehard supporter Nuru Okanga.

Itumbi argued that the arrest of Okanga was unwarranted and it was violating his freedom of expression.

Additionally he insisted that Ruto did not the arrest and prosecution of Raila Odinga’s ardent supporter.

Itumbi thus offered to pay for his legal representation.

“I completely DISAGREE with the idea of arresting bloggers for insulting the president. Whoever is doing it wacheni kabisa. Please wakili @W_Kinuthiah, if Nuru Okanga agrees represent him in court at my cost. There actually exists a right to offend, shock, or disturb. I know for a fact that President @WilliamsRuto has serious stuff to do and is NOT interested in such drama and arrests, he does not even know about it. So who exactly is the complainant? Wachaneni na bloggers, wajiexpress! Tafuteni kazi ingine..” Itumbi’s statement published on X read.

Okanga was presented in court on Thursday November 30. He was charged with insulting President William Ruto on 20 November 2023.

The Bunge la Wananchi member denied the charges against him when he appeared before Mlimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina.

Okanga was charged with publishing false information on his YouTube channel – Riba News – on 20 November 2023.

He is accused of circulating a video with the caption “Nuru Okanga on Fire”. In the video, Okanga allegedly utters unprintable words (insults) demeaning the Head of State.

City lawyer Emmanuel Kibet, who represented the aspiring politician, told the court that Okanga was married with three children and therefore not a flight risk.

The prosecution did not oppose Okanga’s bail application.

He was granted cash bail of Sh10,000 and was held in the court cells while relatives organised to pay the sum.

Okanga recently sat for his KCPE exams at a local school in Mumias.

The Bunge la Mwananchi member stated that he decided to go back to school to actualize his political ambitions.
