The viral photos of President William Ruto and outgoing Interior CS Fred Matiang’i have continued to elicit reactions among Kenyans with Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale recounting the worst moments he faced during Matiang’i’s regime.
Taking to social media, Khalwale reminded Matiang’i of the times he was tear gassed when he was fighting for Ruto to be president while telling him that he though his powers were everlasting.
“Our dear Dr Matiangi, remember the many times u teargassed me as I fought for this man to be President? Hahaa, it served your excessive pride to think that the power u welded was for eternity. Sir, it is all over!” the senator said.

One such incident was in Vihiga in June 2020. Khalwale and several politicians allied to Ruto, dubbed ‘Tanga Tanga’ then, had organized a meeting at the Hamisi MP Charles Gimose’s home.

The police however arrived at the venue and lobbed teargas to disperse the gathering.
In a separate tweet, the senator further accused the police of doing nothing when he was attacked by ODM supporters while reacting to a photo of him ‘exchanging stones’ with a group of people.
Matiang’i was captured along the president at The Statehouse where all cabinet secretaries, except Raphael Tuju, had gathered for a meeting. Both of them were in a jovial mood but earlier photos showed Matiang’i in a gloomy mood as well as other Cabinet Secretaries that opposed Ruto’s presidential candidature.
