The chief suspect in the killing of businessman Kevin Omwenga at Galana Suites in Kilimani now claims the fatal shooting was accidental.
Daily Nation has reported that Robert Bodo Ouko, a suspect in the case told detectives that the bullet that killed the 28-year-old businessman was fired as the two fought over the gun.
Ouko is currently at Kilimani Police Station where has been detained since his arrest on Friday night.
Ouko’s statement comes devoid of what the argument was about and who between him and Omwenga pulled the trigger that killed the latter.
“He insists that he and the deceased have been good friends for a long time,” a detective privy to the ongoing investigations told the Nation.
According to the police report, at the time of the shooting, the murder weapon had 14 rounds of ammunition.
The detectives found a bullet and an empty cartridge from the scene of the crime.
Sources say the detectives wouldn’t get information from Ouko and the other suspect, Chris Obure who is also being detained at Kileleshwa Polic Station since they were intoxicated.
Ouko’s lawyer Patrick Lumumba was seen at Kilimani Police Station shortly before moving to Kileleshwa.
Obure who until yesterday had not recorded a statement told the police that the gun was retrieved from a safe in his office without his knowledge.
From the CCTV footage, Oujko is seen leaving the office block after collecting the guns before he joined Omwenga and his company.

After being arrested, Ouko took detective to Obure’s office where the weapon, complete with 13 rounds of ammunition was found. The murder weapon is now on the focus of the detectives as they try to establish the circumstances under which Obure had it, even after being declared unfit about three years ago.
Obure has reportedly brandished a gun inside B-club after a scuffle over parking space and threatened to shoot a reveler. Obure was later disarmed and was declared unit to have the weapon.
